[Review] Broken Prince by Erin Watt

Review:
Broken Prince by Erin Watt

The sequel to the breakout hit debut novel Paper Princess is a force to be reckoned with. It's as intoxicating and intriguing as it's counterpart and has just as much drama and angst, it will leave you crazy for the next book in the series. At this point, I am pretty sure that I will never get enough of the Royal's. These two authors could write a hundred more books, and I would need to devour each and every one of them.

"He told me to stay away. He told me I didn't belong. If only I'd listened to him."

We pick up RIGHT where book one left off, which was not only a relief but desperately needed. I had a million unanswered questions that had been creeping up on me for MONTHS after I finished Paper Princess. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, every single reader deserves to uncover all those glorious Royal secrets and plot twists on their own.

"It's like he can see into my soul. He sees past the tough front I hide behind. He sees my fears and my vulnerability and he doesn't judge me for it."

The title of this book could not be more fitting as our Royal Prince is indeed a broken mess in this book. Much like the first novel focused on Ella's struggle to come to terms with her mothers death, we get to spend a lot of time inside of Reed's head this time around and see how he is still trying to cope with the death of his own mother and abandonment of his father. That on top of the Brooke debacle makes for some very dramatic and intense plot twists. It seems that Reed has a lot of growing up to do, a lot of issues to work through, and loads of fights to get into. It's a long fall from the top, and our once mighty Prince seems to be drowning in a sea of doubt when his beloved Princess disappears. Don't worry, there are plenty of swoon worthy scenes, romantic declarations, and seriously awesome family drama.

"We're still sparring, still circling each other like well-matched opponents, but we're there, in the ring, together. And that's all that matters."

Sweet lost Ella, fleeing the Royal Palace like Cinderella running away from Prince Charming. Where did she go? Will she come back? Will Reed track her down and explain why the heck is happening with Brooke? So many questions that are answered, and yet I'm left with even more. I think that this book made me root for Ella even more than Paper Princess did, though admittedly... I had times where I wanted to slap her in the face because she is just as stubborn as she always has been. The same fire and determination is alive and well inside our favorite leading lady, and I can say without a doubt that she's blossoming into a force to be reckoned with.

"I see you. I see your hurt and your loneliness. I see your pride, and the way it stops you from leaning on anyone. I see your big heart, and how you want to save the world."

Things that you can expect from this book... phenomenal writing, non-stop action and drama, to hate Jordan even more than you did the first time around, to fall a little more in love with every single one of the Royal men (even Callum), to hate Brooke with the fire of a thousand burning suns. You WILL get answers to most of the questions that you undoubtably had after the first book. However, I can't promise that you won't have an equally (if not worse) book hangover this time around. These are just a few of the guarantees that Broken Price provides.

"We're nothing. We're smoke--insubstantial and meaningless. We aren't even a tragedy. We're less than nothing."

This book is everything a sequel should be. It's catchy, jam-packed with awesomeness, provides as many answers as it does new questions, and makes you more wrapped up in this fumazing book world that these two authors have begun to build together. Don't just walk, run... no SPRINT to the computer to get your copy of this one. It's a solid 5 star follow up.

[Review] Fear Me by B.B. Reid

Review:
Fear Me by B.B. Reid

Well, damn. Wow. Apparently I was a little late to the party with this book, and it makes me freaking sad because I could have read the series 50 times over by now. Let's face it, some books are worthy of multiple rereads and I could tell from page 3 that this would be one of them. That's right, it's spectacular. Fantastic. I don't think there are enough words to describe how great this book is. I'll do my best, though.

"He looked like the monster I never knew I needed to be afraid of."

Lake has been scared of Keiran Masters since she was 7 years old when he pushed her off the monkey bars on the playground. He's obsessed with tormenting her, and she's both repulsed and drawn to him. After a year in juvie for a crime that he's convinced Lake framed him for, he's out for revenge. This time, he plans on tormenting sweet Lake with his body and not just his words. The hatred is undeniable, and the attraction is just as consuming. Blackmail and sex, passion and no remorse. With secrets and lies falling all around them, it's clear that nothing normal will ever result from the haunting past these two share.

“Every moment is mine—your thoughts, your hopes, your dreams are all mine. I will always know where you are and what you are doing. You are mine… at least for the next year.”

Lake, oh sweet innocent Lake Monroe. She's the prettiest girl in school and nobody but her one quirky best friend will talk to her, she keeps her head down tries to avoid her tormentor. 10 years, that's how long the bullying lasts. Hell, it never really stops. The sudden sexual attraction does nothing to dull the spiteful attitude that your anti-hero has for your leading lady. I'm not sure that intense quite covers their 'relationship'. Lake is sarcastic and yet frightened, and you will want her to grow a backbone and step down at the same time. Because really, who knows what the heck you're supposed to do in the presence of Keiran?!

"I was fond of looking into people’s eyes. They told more than the lips ever could—they told the truth."
Keiran Masters is a perfectly crafted character. He's an enigma. A sinfully good looking monster who is a complete mystery wrapped in a hate-fueled package. He's driven solely on the notion that he's rotten on the inside, so he might as well embrace his true nature. Admittedly, he's only cold and aloof with most people. The only person who feels the brunt of his wrath is Lake, and it's clear to everyone around them that something has been building for years. He might want Lake's body, but that doesn't make him gentle or kind. It makes him rough and desperate with the sudden onslaught lust. (It also makes me pant.)

“It’s only for you, never doubt that. No one else makes me feel this way. No one. It’s always been you. It will always be you.”

The attraction is dirty, wrong, ugly and the hottest damn thing that I have ever read. The spark that burns between these two is enough to set your lady parts on fire... and maybe all your friends and women in a 20 mile radius as well. I had to stop and take some deep breaths and I'm running on 3 hours of sleep because I couldn't put the book down, I tried. It wasn't happening. The writing is phenomenal, gripping and executed flawlessly. There is a perfect mix of smut, mystery and even humor. I'm pretty sure that I just found a new favorite author. I feel the unyielding need to stalk all of her books from now on.

“I’m going to break you. But most importantly, I’m going to make you pay.”

This book is not gentle or tender. There are scenes that are so raw and shocking that I gasped. If you are looking for your leading man to redeem himself and become Prince Charming, that's not what you will get here. Stories like this one don't get pretty bows or trappings. No, they are gritty. Riveting. Full of plot twists and guessing. This book is thrilling and not for the faint of heart. But if you like to walk on the wild side, if you enjoy the dark side of the love/hate line... do yourself a favor and get this book RIGHT NOW.

Don't just grab book one, grab the whole damn series while you're at it. It's just that good:

[Review] The Twenty-One by Lauren McKellar

Review:
The Twenty-One by Lauren McKellar

I have no idea what the hell I was expecting out of this book, but it definitely wasn't to have my heart shattered and be left with a tear stained face. I mean, that's good. Great, even. It's not too often that a book breaks my damn heart, and this one did.

"You know, I think this could be the start of an epic story."
Ellie is struggling, every day of her life. She's her grown sisters keeper, and her mothers verbal punching bag. She does it all with a fake smile on her pretty face, because she promised her father that she would. She doesn't want disappoint the memory of her Dad, who she loved so much. So instead, she puts her own life on hold. She just sort of, folds. she's content to live her life for her family, that is until one pair of icy blue eyes shake up her entire world. Because once Joel is back in the picture, everything is different. She stops living her life for someone else and starts embracing what it means to be free. 21 things to do before you turn twenty one, that's his goal and he's suddenly eager to bring Ellie along for the ride. The problem is, all good things must come to an end and this dramatic ending might destroy the girl who is just learning to stand on her own two feet. Soon she finds herself wondering if it's worth it. Is love always worth the risk?

"You can protect your heart all you like. You can fold it up inside bubble wrap, place it in a safe place and never let anyone near it, but the truth is, love finds a way in. We're all only human like that."

Elle. In the beginning I kind of hated you. Well, not really you. I hated your life. I despised that you were so tragically stuck in your life (and often head) with the best of intentions in the worst situations. It was awful and occasionally hard to read because I felt what you felt. I often wanted to punch your sister and Mom in their faces. Luckily, you redeemed yourself. All it took was one boy with beautiful eyes. You grew a backbone and some sass, and soon you became a damn fine leading lady. You basically said 'to hell with this' and jumped into the arms of this boy who you once loved. It's refreshing, and courageous. When tragedy tried to cripple you, you chose to fight back this time and I couldn't have been more proud of the tenacious person that you became.

"Words are powerful weapons. Words are capable of rendering me black and blue with the force of their vicious attack. They're brittle and barbed, and they never miss. It's a direct assault to the heart."

Joel. Why do you have to be so flipping perfect? I wanted to hate you, I tried. Somewhere between you singing Grease karaoke and breathing life back into Elle, I fell for you too! What beautiful words you speak, and what a sad story you have to tell. It's riveting. I was captivated by the charm of Joel Henley, and he gave me an entirely new outlook on life.

"Life isn't about playing it safe, it's about pushing to the limits--living on the edge. It's about pushing yourself for something more."

Here's the thing, this is a book that I wouldn't typically want to pick up. I do not eagerly reach for books that are going to wreak havoc on my emotions. However, there is so much to be said about these characters journey and growth that I can't even be mad at the story. It's actually hard to review this one, because I don't want to give everything away. So I'll just leave it somewhat vague and talk about how this booked touched my life.

"Sometimes you see a truth in words that runs deeper than just surface level. And just when you think you’ve got everything worked out, your life planned and protected against everything bad, one person comes along and shatters it all in one sentence. One breath. One word."

The authors words are gorgeous and the flow of her writing is spectacular. I don't know how I haven't read her other books, but I certainly want to now! I could get lost in these pages and highlight for hours, as a matter of fact... I did just that. If you are looking for something light, this probably isn't for you. Sure, there are silly parts and romantic parts and you will swoon and sigh. But this book is more. It's not light and fluffy. It will call into question your views on life, love, forgiveness and acceptance. It will make you call up your loved ones and tell them that you appreciate them. So yes, read this book if you are looking to connect and feel. Read the hell out of it. Go on...
